Tifenn has quite an original experience: after working as an engineer for several years, she changed carrier quite abruptly becoming a yoga teacher. For 7 years she enjoyed this new life but now she is back again in the engineering world. She grew up in the Alps where she still lives and she loves being at sea and the satisfaction it brings her. She loves outdoors activities that she practices with her family. Jolokia is also a family project for her as her husband and kids support her 200%.

Jeff has joined the team on March 1st 2017 but he knew Jolokia very well already as he worked from 2013 to 2015 as the boat technical manager. He’s always been immersed in the maritime environment: he started as a sailing instructor for French school “Les Glénans” and then did a lot of boat charters as a professional skipper from 2005. It is quite natural, therefore, that he decided to join the team at the end of 2016 when the opportunity arose.

Zaenab is a former professional athlete in diving. She had to give up her dream to participate in the Olympic Games due to a series of injuries. Team Jolokia is for her a great way to turn this page of her life and move forward. She has come to France for this adventure to sail with people who have the same desire to push their limits. Dynamic and determined, she has decided to invest her time entirely in this new adventure and she has moved to France for the entire season.

One of the youngest team members, Cyprien discovered sailing in 2015. He fell in love with the sport and decided to spend 2 years training to be a sailing instructor with the famous French sailing school “Les Glénans”. Always dynamic, curious, he has found a new competitive edge in sailing. Jolokia is also for him a way to discover the world.

She has been dedicated to sports all her life. At a very young age she was thrown in a pool and she has been swimming competitively for the last 13 years (national and regional championships) but since September 2017 she has hung up her swimsuit.

2018 is a transitional year for her and she wants to discover the world of sailing through her experience with Team Jolokia. Following a year at sea, Marjolaine wants to leave sports to dedicate herself to heritage preservation through the restoration of stained glass windows.

Diversity is part of of Anna’s life: she lives in Barcelona, a very cosmopolitan town and has travelled a lot and lived in 6 different countries (Italy, France, England, Germany, Canada and Spain). She is not really into sports, nor very brave but she knows how to listen to others, to see them, help them find their place. Her love for sailing and for Humans have led her to apply for Team Jolokia. Anna has joined the adventure to work with others on a common project and improve performance.

Dynamic and passionate, Julien is a bundle of energy, be it on land or at sea. He loves the contact with others and sharing his adventures with the greatest possible number of people. Still as motivated as in the beginning, his 17 years playing rugby competitively had given him this desire to always be competitive and push the limits. His motto to move forward: team spirit.

Lizzy is British but, since 2014 she has been living in Lorient when following her dream of offshore racing brought her across the Channel. She has since sailed solo across the Atlantic onboard a Mini 6.50 and she wants to participate to the OSTAR race in 2020. In the meantime, Jolokia combines what she loves: sailing and human contact. With a diploma as a speech therapist, Lizzy wishes to improve her french to better integrate the French society and help others with her work.

Multifaceted, Alexis is writing a book, making his own beer, renovating a boat, playing lots of different sports… and is finishing his thesis in geophysics/ numerical analysis at the French research center “CNRS” in Marseille! He has lots of dreams, on land or at sea. One of them is to participate to the Mini Transat, a transatlantic race on a 6.50m sailing yacht.

Travelling has always been part of her DNA. From a large family (9 children) and with a military dad, Bénédicte lived for several years in Africa and in other European countries. Now she travels a lot as a volunteer for French NGO «The Red Cross» with missions in Thailand or Reunion island. Jolokia is for her another step to know more about human kind. She hopes to be able to apply what she learns onboard to her professional environment. A sentence she likes a lot “At sea, maps draw the lines of our destination as well as our destinies”.

Tenacity and perseverance are 2 key words to define our rowing champion. Since 2010, Eric practices 6 to 8 times per week on double sculls, quad sculls, eight and he has participated to several French championships in the veteran category. As an athlete, commitment and self sacrifice are part of the sport. This year was Eric’s third attempt to be part of Team Jolokia, he doesn’t give up!

When he has something in mind, Olivier invests 100% into it. More than a project for himself, he cares about sharing it with others. He has experienced diversity in his work, especially while working with international teams. On the water, Olivier likes everything, from sailing for leisure to competition. He has sailing a lot on Pen Duick VI, one of the boats from French sailing legend Eric Tabarly.

Thanks to her study, Raphaelle is quite aware of issues linked to inequalities in our society and she wants to benefit from her experience with Jolokia to meet new people, “different” people and learn from their stories. For her, Jolokia is a unique experience that allows to everyone to fit somewhere, sincerely, just being oneself.

Antoine has sailed on a Laser for many years, he was part of the “FILIERE FEDERALE” in dinghy sailing. At the end of high school he chose to focus on his studies and more specifically physics in the French school “Normale Supérieure” in Cachan. Team Jolokia is for him a great way to invest in a team project the same energy he used for his previous solo sporting efforts.  He hopes to learn a lot from it.

A real globetrotter, Emmanuelle has lived in Brazil for 6 years and been an air hostess for long distance flights with Air France for 18. She was always passionate about arts and a chance encounter led her into this new universe. 58 years old and full of energy, Emmanuelle loves human contact and thrives on what others bring her.

Human relationships are what matter the most for Laurent. He discovered his attraction for social work while volunteering for an organisation helping mentally ill people in Poland for a year. Full of life, he enjoys every moment. Always keen for new challenges he loves running and has now participated in a number of marathons and semi-marathons. After travelling for a few months in Europe, South and Central America, Laurent is coming back onboard, more motivated than ever!

Dana has discovered sailing in Romania but she wants to get better at it and progress in France. She dreams about offshore sailing and all that it entails! She is not scared of harsh living conditions, hard jobs onboard, on the contrary, she finds them quite motivating. A lawyer in Romania, Dana wishes to continue her research on how companies influence our lives. She hopes that her experience onboard Jolokia will help her in that project.

He says he’s got a bow legged walk like Jack Sparrow the pirate.  Critically injured in a motorcycle accident in 2006, he suffers today from hemiplegia but it doesn’t stop him. Passionate about sailing and competition he has gained a lot of experience sailing in the last few years. Sailing on a Volvo Ocean 60 is for him a fresh start, a blank page on which he looks forward to writing the first lines…

Freya fell in love with sailing and doesn’t want to stop! For her, sailing represents a communion with nature, a feeling of freedom, the pleasure to share and learn with others. With an architect degree, Freya gets inspired each day by diversity to be more and more creative. This year, she hopes to settle in France and learn French.
